The Glock 22 model is a semi-automatic pistol, actually a modified version of the model 17, chambered with .40 S&W ammunition. The slide of the 22 is modified as well as the frame, barrel and magazine; however the appearance of the 22 is practically identical to the model 17. The difference is the weight and construction of the Glock 22, some of its parts is lighter to compensate the cartridge.

The Glock 22 was introduced in 1990 as the first .40 S&W Glock in the family. The main use and operation of the Glock 22 is as a sidearm of many police forces around the world. They utilize the superior design of the Glock 17 and combine it with the power, velocity and all the other benefits of the caliber. Glock 22 as well as many other Glocks are available in different versions, or generations, the shifts from generation to generation are achieved by the improvement of the parts of the gun. All these improvements are upgrading performance, reliability and/or allow for easier handling, operation and recoil minimization.
